Event Designers Can Scare Up A Great Look For A Horror Fan Convention
Looks count for a lot when you promote a fan convention, especially if the show is a horror convention. Yes, the fans are mainly there to meet legendary, up-and-coming genre stars. Watching movies on a 16mm screen, collecting autographs, and hobnobbing with fellow fright-film enthusiasts adds to the enjoyment. That said, attendees would have a tough time getting into the overall mood if the convention looks flat instead of fearful. New promoters running their inaugural horror convention should consult with event designers to capture the appropriately scary look.
Bringing a Pro Onboard
Promoters rent space from the hotel, but the hotel can't help out with aesthetic looks. That's just not the hotel staff's area of expertise. Bringing in an outside event designer, however, could change the look from functional to theatrical. Promoters wishing to hang up store-purchased decorations will get what they pay for: a cheap and rushed look. A professional, however, could craft a unique look that comes off as both eerie and impressive.
The Right Look Creates the Right Mood
Bland may scare people away from attending your next show, so you want to impress people with a proper look. A sharp look could connect with a particular theme to the convention. If the event occurs during Halloween, going with traditional Halloween-style orange and black on posters, cutouts, and other promotional items makes sense. Booking guests around Halloween may be tough, though, which means a little creativity may be necessary when coming up with the right look. That's where a designer could prove helpful. He/she could think about unique ideas to leave fans impressed.
Borrowing from a Movie
If your convention revolves around appearances of several characters from the same movie or TV show, a designer could come up with a look that honors it. The Walking Dead TV series, for example, takes place, mostly, in a wooded area. A designer could give the convention dealer's room a rustic look, but one with a tinge of horror. Many dramatic and horrifying moments in The Walking Dead take place at dusk or dawn. A talented designer could weave similar visuals into, say, the stage design for panel discussions.
Planning Things Out
To avoid the real horror of things not looking as best as can be, contact designers far in advance. This way, everyone can discuss ideas and come up with the right look and utterly horrifying stylistic theme for the event.
