Getting Hitched? Four Wedding Music Tips
So, you and your significant other finally got engaged and now it is time to plan the wedding. Music may not necessarily your specialty, but it is something that needs to be part of your wedding day. Believe it or not, music can make or break your wedding. So, with that being said, here are a few wedding music tips as you start to plan your big day.
Get Some Recommendations from Your Peers
Chances are good that you have attended some weddings in the past, so make a list of friends and family members of whom you have attended their weddings. Once you have this list compiled, start making some calls and asking them for their recommendations on musicians, bands, and DJs for your wedding and reception. You can even call some friends who have recently attended a wedding themselves. This will provide you with a great starting point.
Sample the Music First
As soon as you have a list of some musicians, bands, and DJs who you may potentially hire, you must see and hear them before you actually book and hire them. While it is always best if you can see them perform live, a sample will suffice. Just make sure that you know what you are listening to and what you are getting, as you want to ensure it is all the same in the end.
Create a Do-Not-Play List
It is obvious that you will create a list of songs that you want to be played at your wedding, but what may be even more important than a list of allowable songs is the list of songs that you will not want to be played under any circumstances. You need to ensure that the musician that you hire will agree to follow your list no matter how much money a guest may be willing to pay them.
Play Different Genres of Music
You and your fiancé may love one particular genre of music, but your guests are not going to want to listen to hours of Nirvana or Taylor Swift. If you try to play hours on end of one type of music, you may find that your wedding guests skip out of the reception early. Since you are wanting to share this important day with your family and friends, you are going to want to make sure that you cater to the masses when it comes to the music playlist. Save your '90s grunge or obscure music for the honeymoon and stick some of your family and friends' favorites in the reception playlist.
